Condensation is not water leak.

In fact, condensation is a normal occurrence of water from vapor (gaseous form) into water droplets (liquid form). All of our headlights and tail lights are properly sealed with silicon or heat-pressed, so there should not be any water leaking. However, even OEM headlights have condensation occurs occasionally and is absolutely normal. Condensation does not suggest a defect in the product. Let’s try to distinguish condensation and water leak:

Condensation

Condensation appears as water vapor or small water droplets on the lens. Condensation does not cause a problem with headlights or tail lights operation, and usually disappear after the headlights circulate the air.

Water Leak

Water leak happens due to improper seal of the headlights, and you will find large water droplets inside the lights and pooled water accumulate in the light housing. Large amount of water inside the lights can damage the circuit board and can cause malfunction of the lights. Please contact us if your lights have water leaking problem.

All headlights and tail lights are possible to condensate due to following reasons:

  • Headlights and tail lights housing are composed of polypropylene (PP) and lens are composed of polycarbonate (PC). Both materials are plastic and naturally adsorb moisture in the air, and when the light heats up, these plastic release moisture and the moisture got trapped inside the lights.
  • All headlights and tail lights are sealed with silicon or are sealed with heat-pressed, there will be air trapped inside the light. When the light is heated up, inside temperate will be higher than outside temperature so the moisture will attach to the lens. If the lights inside temperature is not hot, the vapor condensate into water droplets on the lens.
  • Halogen bulbs have higher temperature than LED headlights, and tail lights inside temperate is not hot, so condensation can be more noticeable.

What AlphaRex does to our products to avoid condensation:

  • When the lights are manufactured, we put the housing into an oven and try to eliminate moisture from the plastic.
  • We apply Nitto Denko Temish Capseal air vent, which perform excellent waterproof and air permeability due to the membrane with micro pore, in our headlights to allow air and vapor to circulate through our headlights.
  • We apply air fan in our LUXX-Series tail lights to maximize air circulation to avoid moisture build up inside the housing.
